Campfire Club: Building Fellowship Through Social Support

We like to say that the world is a global community. However, we often fail to see how interconnected the ''homes'' in our community are. Families, friends, and communities have become scattered across the globe due to various reasons.

But at the same time, many people are also building new relationships and forming connections in new places. Be it social media or a camping retreat; there are so many ways for us to make new friends and build a community.

Social support is the backbone of these relationships. It is the foundation on which we can rely. In today's time, social support is not limited to kind words and a pat on the back. It goes beyond that, often taking a monetary or physical form.

One such approach is the Campfire Club at Wesleyan Woods. Let us tell you more about it.

Overview of the Campfire Club

The Wesleyan Woods Campfire Club is a community-based initiative that aims to provide social support and create fellowship among campers. As a club member, you agree to give a monthly donation to support the camp's various programs and ministries.

All donations we receive from the campers go directly towards improving the camp's facilities. Your contributions allow us to serve worship teams, speakers, teens, kids, and families visiting the camp.

If you want to be a part of our Campfire Club, the sign-up process is simple. You can easily join and make your first donation on our website or during your next visit to the camp. Have any questions? Don't hesitate to ask us online.

The Impact of Campfire Club

Involvement is the highlight of social support. And in the case of Campfire Club, it's a win-win situation for both campers and the camp itself. We use the donations to enhance the camp's infrastructure, activities, and resources.

In 2023, we used these resources to provide ministries, such as:

Strong Families RV Weekend

It always warms our hearts to see multiple generations of family members come together for a weekend at Wesleyan Woods. The Strong Families RV Weekend event was a big hit among campers and provided the perfect opportunity for families to bond, relax, and strengthen their faith together.

Some of the self-run daily activities at the weekend were:
  • Disc golf
  • Putt Putt golf
  • Playground
  • Carpet ball
  • Horseshoes
  • Fishing (Catch and Release ONLY)
  • Swimming
  • Canoeing (in the canal)
  • Biking
  • Hiking
  • Tetherball
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Big playing field
  • Gaga Pit
  • Corn Hole Course

We also had many high-adventure activities, such as the 45-foot rock climbing wall and zip lines. The High Ropes Course was also open for those who like to test their limits. Families also enjoyed the water slide and dock.

White Flag Teen Camp

In June 2023, we held our White Flag teen camp. The purpose of this camp was to equip teens with God's word and to help them find a personal connection with Him. We took an unconventional route toward teen ministry by helping attendees have the time of their lives while staying safe.

The chapels had contemporary worship and dynamic speakers to keep the teens engaged and inspired. Plus, we had group discussion times, where teens could share their struggles, ask questions, and find Biblical answers.

Some recreational activities we offered during the camp were:
  • Enjoying our 50 ft Water Slide
  • Ziplining
  • Climbing wall & cargo net
  • Paddling around the lake in canoes & kayaks
  • Swimming
  • Playing camp-wide games

There was a Snack Shack to keep everyone fed. Campers indulged in all these activities while learning how to strengthen their faith and tackle everyday challenges.

Courageous Kids Day Camp

At Wesleyan Woods, we're strong believers in the fact that the sooner children begin to understand God's love, the better their lives will be.

We held a four-day camp, where kids having completed 3rd-6th grade or ages 8-12 years enjoyed interactive games and adventures. Two of the most-liked activities on the schedule were our 45-foot rock climbing wall and zip line. It was a pleasure to see these young ones challenge themselves in a safe environment.

Family Camp

There's no better way to bring families closer together than spending time in the great outdoors. Our 2023 Family Camp had plenty of activities for the young and the young at heart.
Pastor Steve and Jane Raeburn, who are a part of our Big Blast Ministry, led two services every day for the Kids Track. Pastor Justin Leininger and Pastor Ed Torres were in charge of the daily activities of the little ones.

Other activities were the same as we offered during our Strong Families RV Weekend. Rest assured, everyone had a blast.

How the Campfire Club Contributed

Our annual Campfire Club members played a huge role in supporting our camp's faith-based activities. The donations and contributions from the Campfire Club ensured that we could keep our fees at an affordable rate for families coming to spend time with their loved ones.

With this support, we were able to make necessary maintenance and improvements around the campground, keeping it clean and safe for the attendees. We also used the funds to compensate our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to make sure everyone has an unforgettable experience.

If you look at our Core Values, you'll see that quality service is one of them. We don't only want you to be together and have fun; we want to give you an experience that you will remember for years to come. Our Campfire Club members make this possible.
